Chemical peels are a non-surgical method of skin rejuvenation that can be customized to a patient’s specific needs and desired results. Peel solutions come in an array of active ingredients and strengths to address the unique skin concerns of the individual patient. Chemical peel treatments have been used by physicians and aestheticians for decades to achieve a smoother, more youthful complexion while minimizing the appearance of fine lines and other minor skin blemishes.

Treatment Areas

Chemical peels can be used to address a wide range of skin concerns, including:

  • Fine lines and deeper facial creases
  • Shallow scarring from acne or chicken pox
  • Irregular skin texture or tone
  • Hyperpigmentation or the appearance of age spots
  • Sun damage

Specialized chemical peels may also be used to treat specific skin conditions, such as acne or rosacea. Dr. Sharma at Plastic Surgery Austin works individually with each patient to ensure the right peel solution is used to achieve the best possible results.

VI Peel

Known as “the first painless chemical peel,” VI Peel is formulated to address issues with acne and hyperpigmentation, reverse signs of aging and repair sun damage. It not only repairs and rejuvenates skin, but even works to protect your skin from future damage. Some of the benefits VI Peel offers include:

  • Softening the look of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Smoothing away rough skin texture
  • Restoring a more even tone to your skin

If you have more specific skin issues, there are “boosters” that can be added to your VI Peel that will address advanced aging, sun damage, acne or acne scarring. These products include:

VI Peel with Precision – This booster has the same ingredients as the VI Peel, only at a higher concentration to address more advanced signs of aging. Precision is specially formulated to refresh aging skin that is more difficult to treat, as well as helping to prevent further damage.

VI Peel with Precision Plus – This booster is formulated to address hyperpigmentation, a benign condition caused by sun damage. Also called age spots or sun spots, hyperpigmentation results in splotchy, uneven skin tone and rough skin texture. Precision Plus can help brighten skin and reduce the appearance of uneven pigmentation, as well as smooth rough skin.

VI Peel PURIFY – Acne is the most prevalent skin issue in the U.S., with nearly 50 million people of all ages struggling with this issue each year. VI PURIFY is designed to treat acne-prone skin by opening pores, clearing out dead skin cells, killing the bacteria that causes acne, and soothing redness and inflammation.

VI Peel PURIFY with Precision Plus – As anyone with acne can tell you, even once the acne is under control, scars and hyperpigmentation may still leave your skin looking less than perfect. VI PURIFY with Precision Plus is formulated to help eliminate acne scars and uneven color, brightening dark areas and smoothing your skin texture while soothing any inflammation and redness that remains.

If you are looking for the perfect peel for your problem skin, VI Peel may be the answer. Ask Dr. Sharma for more information on VI Peel when you come in for your skin consultation.

About the Procedure

Chemical peels are performed on an outpatient basis at Plastic Surgery Austin and may take 30-90 minutes to complete. First, the face is thoroughly cleansed and then the peel solution is applied. The solution remains on the skin for a prescribed amount of time, depending on the specific formula used and the skin concerns to be addressed. The peel may require neutralization before it is removed from the skin.

After the procedure, the skin may be red and slightly tender, as if it was sunburned. Depending on the depth of the peel, there may be some flaking or crusting as the outer layer of skin cells slough away. What is left is smoother, softer skin with fewer lines or other visual imperfections.

Results

Results of a chemical peel are usually evident a few days after the procedure, as the skin heals. The depth of the peel will determine how long results will last, with light peels requiring more frequent touch-ups than deeper peels. However, deeper peels also require a longer recovery period before the results of the treatment are apparent.
