Austin, TX Laser and Chemical peels performed by Dr Sharma

Laser and Chemical peels tighten the skin and remove blemishes throughout the face using intense, focused light energy (laser) or concentrated chemicals known to effect a controlled depth of peel to the face.

Chemical peels have been available in the plastic surgeon's office for decades, and still find utility for facial rejuvenation, softening or removing wrinkles, and return to a more youthful, refreshed appearance. Varying the depth of peel depends on the agent with the lighter peels being glycolic acid, or alpha-hydroxy acids, and deeper peeling agents such as trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and phenol. The latter two agents cause the deepest penetration and often required a mild sedative during application. Recovery time is generally the longest with the phenol peels, but the results are also longer lasting.

Lasers are very effective at targeting wrinkles around the eyes, mouth, and forehead, and also promote even pigmentation for blotchy skin. Full-face laser resurfacing can be as effective as face lift procedures given the right patient. Additionally, the laser can be used to target specific areas during facelifts, brow/eye lifts, or rhinoplasty. Downtime from activities varies depending on the extent of treatment with the initial period being 2 weeks and continued healing outwards of 3 months.

More information about Lasers can be found here.

An aesthetician is available at Meridian Plastic Surgery Center to aid the patient recovering from a skin resurfacing procedure with cover-up makeup and general skin care products during and after healing. See the ASPS website for skin care information.
